Gavin strolled through the grounds of Sendai Tanabata. He saw all the strips of paper hanging from the trees and buildings... Wishes of the hearts desire. He had heard of the festival and the legend behind it. He had only been in Nagasaki a short while but long enough to know that his wish was one that could not be solved by writing on a slip of paper.
<<Aw come on Gav. What could it hurt honestly? I mean who knows, maybe you are an answer to someone ELSE'S wishes HA HA HA>> Chester loved to pick on Gavin when he had the chance to. But it was also the only way Chester knew of that would snap Gavin out of his funk. Maybe not the BEST way but still... It was entertaining.
>>Chez... Not today please. I'll tell you what if it will get you off my back I'll do it, ok?<< Gavin thought in return.
As he started to write on the paper he looked around. Nothing. He went back to his writing. Again his head popped up. He couldnt help it. He kept getting a feeling someone was watching.
All of a sudden he heard Chester gasp as he scanned the crowd.
<<GAVIN.... HOLY SHIT BRAV... STRAIT BACK NEAR THE MAN IN GREEN... IS THAT....?!?!>>
Gavin looked at where Chester discribed... And nearly fell over. It was only a second but they saw the same thing... An evil little smile, a hair flip, and gone. Gavin took off running through the people and rounded the corner he saw her disappear around only to collide with a poor woman that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He searched the crowd with his eyes but saw no one.
<<Was that her Gav?>>
Gavin didnt know how to answer...
>>I wouldnt have run if I didnt think so Chez<<
Gavin turned to the woman he had knocked over and bent over to help her up and help with her things. She proceeded to smack his arms away and start yelling at him in Japanese while looking down and collecting her things.
"I'm sorry madam but I do not understand you. Is there anything I can do to appoligise." He said as he removed his sunglasses.
"Oh great. Another clumsy American pretending at manners." she said in english with a slight accent. "You can watch where you are going for starters. Why are you Americans always in such a hurry. I have half a mind to...." and at that she looked at Gavin, and his blue/green eyes, and lost her train of thought as most women did.
"You know... its ok, and you did try to apologise which is more then most do." she started to smile a little and Gavin even saw her blush. "My name is Atsuko Katsumodo."
Gavin had seen the effect before. He smirked a little. "Its nice to meet you Atsuko. My name is Gavin. Gavin Donnelly. I promise I will slow down and do my best to watch and make sure I do not knock over beautiful women. However," he picked up some of the heavier items, "if you will allow me, may I help you for now as pentince." He knew she wouldnt be able to resist.
"Yes you may." she smiled. "I'm headed just down the street." He flashed a grin as he followed.
"This festival is amazing I must say. The colors are like nothing I've seen before. But I must admit I feel lucky to have run in to you." he said. Hoping to use the incident as a stepping stone.
"Well you are a large man." she smiled. "Im only fortunate you were not running faster then you were."
As they walked she told him about the history of the festival, about Orihime and Hikoboshi... And about how according to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. He smiled as he listened and continued to walk. When at last they arrived at the stand she was carrying the items to she smiled and thanked him.
"I appreciate all your help Gavin. Where can I find you should I need your help with anything else?" she said shyly, half turned and nearly hiding behind her hair.
"Oh trust me, I'll be around." he replied.
She giggled to herself and kept her hands crossed infront of her as she bowed and smiled. "Then I look forward to our next encounter."
Gavin watched as she walked away. The next meeting would be sooner then she knew. He planned on that meeting happening by the end of the evening. He smiled at the thought when she turned and faced him from across the square.
"I see you still have much to learn Gavin. Maybe next time."
As Gavin looked at her she started to shimmer a little. An evil smile spread across her face. As she turned away she laughed to herself as he watched her change. An illusion... Walking away from him and laughing knowing he couldn't reach her. With that Atsuko was gone... And Nora stood smiling before she turned to run away.
There would be no way to go after her now without drawing more attention then he probably should and he knew it. His rage boiled as a smile spread across his face... A smile that stretched from ear to ear... She would survive the night, but some poor soul would not be as lucky.
