The Sendai Tanabata Festival. Angel had never heard of the tradition before, and probably never would have if it weren't for Rumor explaining it to him. The story of two lovers separated by an incalculable amount of time and space... It was a story that bestowed hurt, and hope. Listening to one such as Rumor tell the story it was probably an even more beautiful tale than any Angel had ever heard before. After she told the Angel the tale she skipped off to prepare for the festival and she encouraged Angel to do the same.
Angel did enjoy going out and partaking in the city. However with the new confusion of seeing dead people...
"Stupid book."
He looked at the book, but it was staying stubbornly silent. What a surprise... Either way he sat there and deliberated for a bit before finally deciding to go out, mainly because Belle had heard about the festival and she threatened to go out with, or without him. He sighed, he would complain but it was hard to stay down when your primary companions where Belle, Rumor, and Octavian. Those three seem to have a gift that prevents one from feeling bad. That thought itself put a smile on the young vampire's face.
"C'mooooooooon Gelly!!! Let's go!!!"
Belle purred. Angel turned to look at the girl and she was on all four's looking like a cat about to pounce, including her tail slightly twitching from side to side. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Ok, ok. I think we're ready go."
"Yay!"
She leaped straight up and rushed for the door only stopping because Angel was taking too long to follow after her, he had no idea where she got her energy. But they were soon out and on their way to the main hub of the festival.
Once their they were surrounded by lights, music, laughter, fun and games all around. Belle was ecstatic to say the least running every which way, barely seeing what she was first running too before something else. Normally he would blame it on her ease of being distracted, however even he was having a hard time trying to catch all the sights and sounds in the area. This was definitely a time for much mirth. This festival showed Angel that just because he had done a lot of traveling, he still had a lot of things he had yet to see.
While Belle ran around checking out different exhibits of art, and music, as well as many many other fantastical things Angel followed also enjoy his time he even got Belle a few more balloons and knick-knacks from local merchants who had taken the opportunity of the festival to come out and sell special wares. As they continued Angel came upon a booth in the middle of all the festivities. Angel could not help but be drawn to the table where there was a nice elderly woman who was in charge of the booth. Surprisingly there didn't seem to be any line, or even crowd for that matter, anywhere near this woman's booth. Angel approached her and waved.
"Hello."
He would say with a smile.
"What have you got going on at this booth if I might ask? I doesn't seem like you've had many visitors this evening."
The little old woman looked up at Angel and smiled. He looked into her eyes and was confused. To his knowledge this woman was human, she didn't give off any supernatural vibes that he was aware of, however... those eyes, they looked Ancient even more so than Mizuki's. The thought sent a chill down his spine.
"Only those who need to come my way do, and it appears you are one such person."
The old woman said quite cryptically. Angel furrowed his brow in confusion. However he had been around enough old, and ancient, people to know that pursuing any answers would be pointless.
"Ok... and for what reason do I find myself coming your way?"
The woman only offered a small laugh, which sounded more like cackling. When she finished she brushed a tear from her eye.
"My boy only you have that answer. I'm only here to offer you the tools you need to continue your journey."
Then without any further conversation the old woman reached down below her counter before pulling out a roll of old looking paper, ink well, and an old fashioned writing quill.
"This festival is a time for making wishes, so go ahead and make your wish. But be sure of your wish before you make it, or else you'll find that you are unable to write it. Let me know when you've written your wish and I shall hang it up properly for you."
Then she sat back in her chair and seemed to fall asleep.
A time for wishes, eh? With that Angel picked up the quill and dipped it in the ink. Pausing for a moment he thought about his wish. 'I wish I could have a happy life.' Then he started to write the wish... and failed attempting to write it he made mistakes and ended up ripping the paper. He ripped off that piece of paper and crumpled it and tried again... and again... and again... all to no avail.
"Did you not listen to my words? I told you, be sure of your wish before you attempt to write it."
Then she shook her head and spoke under her breath in a language Angel didn't understand. He rolled his eye... however he did contemplate his wish more. He stood there for awhile thinking to himself before finally it came to him... and he wrote his wish.
'I wish for this to be my home. I wish for the turmoil of being chased by my family to come to an end. I wish for a resolution to the issues that have caused my cousin and I to run, and keep running. I wish for the running and the chasing to end, once and for all.'
Angel wrote out the wish without a single mistake and he felt quite proud of himself. He looked up and was about to let the old woman know that he had finished but before he could utter a single word, the woman had hopped up and taken the paper he had written as well as put away all the writing supplies.
"Very good. I shall hang this up for you no need to worry yourself about that. However you might want to go chase down your cousin before she gets into to trouble."
"Thank you, and good idea."
Angel turned to leave when he heard her speak again.
"And I do apologize my young Mr. Mau. Your hardships are just about to begin."
The hair on the back of his neck stood up and he turned to look at the woman, but she was no longer there... Hesitating for a moment Angel was about to walk towards the booth again when he heard Belle call for him. He hesitated a second more for finally going off to find his cousin. He didn't know what the old woman was talking about or who she was... but he for some reason her words were unsettling. However tonight was a night for fun, he would worry about her on another day.
"ANGEL!!!"
Belle called.
"I'm coming I'm coming."
He called back going after his cousin. Already the old woman's words fading out of his memory.
