Octavian smiled across the table, little Chelsea had asked him to be her Valentine and after a quiet discussion with Amy, agreed. So far the night had gone splendidly, he'd taken her to the movies, driven her around Nagasaki in his Nova, and taken care to listen to her every word. She seemed to be having a good evening, and he was glad she hadn't decided to stay by herself indoors on Valentine's Day.
"I just wish I was prettier, like your wife Mr O. She's gorgeous and she seems to really love you. How can I be like her? I mean, sheesh you're so lucky to have someone." She sighed and all Octavian could do was smile.
"It's really not how it worked you know." He reached across the table, patting her hands gently. "I didn't like her when I met her."
Little Chelsea's eyes grew larger behind her bottles glasses. "But you guys look so good together!" She groaned, "I wish I could find a sexy guy like you!" Her hands shot up covering her mouth as her face flungushed bright red. "I didn't mean... I mean you do look really... Oh no... I'm sorry Mr O... I didn't mean..."
Octavian smiled, very gently toward her shaking his head a bit. "It's okay, I know what you meant." His voice was soft and warm, "I'm not all that much of a catch. Besides, you're smart, kind and one of the most honest girls I've met in a while. I'm sure when you do find someone, they'll love you just for you." He tilted his head a bit, warmth lighting up his brown eyes. "After all, you are always helping people. You just have to be a little patient."
It took a couple of minutes for her to calm down, letting his words and warmth sink in, and for her to realize that she wasn't in trouble. "I hope so." She mumbled staring down into her coffee. "Thank you for coming out with me again, it's been really nice. Uh, would it be okay if we went driving around a little more? You've got the coolest car in the city! My mom drives a sedan." She made a little scratched up face.
Octavian nodded, paid for their coffee and took her out. Driving through the streets while she laughed with the wind whipping both their hair about. It took a couple hours. But eventually she fell asleep exhausted with a little smile on her face. He took her back to her place and made sure to tuck her into bed, leaving a lilly with a note next to it on her nightstand.
~I had a wonderful evening with you, and I know you'll find that perfect guy soon. I hope you like the flower.~
